Shut the Box: What's New
Play Shut the Box
October 22, 2026: Play with friends
- Pass & play: 2–4 players take turns on one device. Each player plays a full box, and the lowest score wins the round. A scoreboard keeps track of round wins.
- Play online: start a game, send your friend the 5-letter code or link, and play live on two devices.
- Online games are cheat-proof. Both games roll the dice together, so neither player can rig them, and each game checks every move the other player makes. If something doesn't add up, the match stops.
- Leaving an online game partway through a round counts as a forfeit.
October 22, 2026: First version
- Roll two dice and shut tiles that add up to the roll. Your score is the total of the tiles left open, so lower is better.
- Play with tiles 1–9, 1–10, or 1–12.
- Optional rule: roll just one die once every tile above 6 is shut.
- Show ways to make the roll lists every combination of open tiles that works. Tap one to select it.
- Stats for games played, boxes shut, best score, and average score, saved in your browser.
- Keyboard shortcuts: number keys pick tiles, Space rolls or shuts, N starts a new game.
